Photoshop your brains out (or in this case, your waist out)

Heidi Klum on German GQ

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a cover that is so blatantly shopped that it would make a toddler look twice. All I can really say to this is ‘what the?!?’. I’m talking about the March 2009 cover of German GQ magazine featuring Heidi Klum. I’m almost speechless. Sure, I’m a graphic designer, and I have a trained eye for this kind of thing, but it wouldn’t take an expert to pick this. There is no skin tone, no skin flaws, and she has almost become one dimensional. The area around the stomach, waist, buttocks and thighs are almost completely created in photoshop – almost nothing looks original. And what about the completely hand drawn drop shadow? I can’t get over that this ever was considered good enough by the retoucher to pass on to the editor and that the editor ever sent it to print. It’s actually kinda insulting.
