It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas…

Ellen DeGeneres and Oprah Winfrey make merry on the Christmas cover of 'O' magazine

With Christmas less than 5 weeks away it’s very rare to find a shopping centre or office foyer without the customary festive decorations.  Any stationary object, empty space or bare head is often decorated with one of the 3 ‘Christmas T’s'; a tree,  tinsel and/or plenty of twinkle lights!

The magazine world loves to get into the Christmas spirit too.

Snaps to Oprah for sharing the Christmas cheer with her 2009 December cover. Resplendent in a cherry red gown, Oprah’s glee is evident as she attempts to ‘light up’ a DeGeneres Christmas tree much to Ellen’s despair!

The Australian Women’s Weekly also loves a themed Christmas cover and this year’s December issue features Channel 9 star Shelley Craft looking gorgeous in a red satin striped Alex Perry cocktail  number with floral brooch.

Not one to miss out on the act, iSUBSCRiBE’s highest selling title; Better Homes & Gardens loves to showcase their Christmas DIY projects on the cover.  This year the Christmas tree is jam-packed with home-made decorations and it magically hovers above a blanket of gorgeously boxed gifts – wrapped in the BH & G free wrapping paper of course!

A more recent and subtle example is this year’s December US Vogue.  Shot by renowned photographer Annie Leibovitz, Anne Hathaway stars on the cover in an emerald green dress and inside opens up about  everything from designing her wedding dress to making dramatic physical changes the role of Fantine (Les Miserables opens Christmas  Day in the US).

What is most shocking however, is the final art direction. Who would have thought Anna Wintour would approve the somewhat lurid Christmas colours of red and green for the cover of this high-end fashion magazine?

It got me thinking that maybe Anna really is a closet ‘Christmas Elf’ that loves nothing more than baking up a gingerbread storm and popping on a red frock and a pair of musical reindeer earrings! Not at all the Christmas Grinch we thought she would be!
